How Latin Hip-Hop Kept The Funk Intact

How Latin Hip-Hop Kept The Funk Intact For our Essentials Series on Latin Roots Josh Norek of the Latin Alternative radio show is here to explore Latin hip-hop. Not surprisingly, Latin artists began exploring hip-hop as the genre took hold in the U.S.. Josh tells us that, unlike here, Latin artists like Control Machete from Northern Mexico and Orishas originally from Cuba kept the funk that went missing in the U.S.. We’ll also hear the extraordinary Chilean artist Ana Tijoux. Check out Josh’s Spotify list for more music.

Session Setlist
“SI SENOR” - Control Machete
“A LO CUBANO” – Orishas
“1977” - Ana Tijoux
